Zhiao Yu received his B.S. in Materials Chemistry from Peking University as an honored undergraduate, and got his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stanford University. In 2022, Zhiao co-founded Feon Energy, Inc. for commercializing his Ph.D. research on practical high-energy lithium metal and anode-free batteries. He is the CTO of Feon Energy, Inc. and has been selected as Activate Fellow cohort 2023. During Ph.D. time he did an internship in Cell Manufacturing Engineering at Tesla, and after graduation, he worked as full-time Research Scientist in artificial intelligence for battery materials at ByteDance.
Zhiao conducted research on lithium batteries under the supervision of Prof. Zhenan Bao and Prof. Yi Cui during his Ph.D. He published over 50 papers and invented 6 patent applications. His works and inventions are featured in WIRED, Tech Xplore, Stanford News, Stanford Energy News, Eureka Alert, Popular Mechanics, Futurity, Science Daily, The Engineer, Green Car Congress, PV Magazine, Engadget, etc.
